Robinhood Chain Memecoin Volume Peaked at $443m a Day, Then Fell 96 Percent
Crypto Briefing reports that daily memecoin trading on Robinhood Chain reached $443m before collapsing by 96 percent. The chain's overall figures tell a steadier story: total value locked set a record of $1.05bn today.
Daily memecoin trading on Robinhood Chain climbed to roughly $443m at its peak and has since fallen about 96 percent, according to Crypto Briefing. The rise and fall took place on a chain that is barely three months into carrying real retail flow, and it is the clearest measure yet of how much of the chain's early activity was speculative turnover rather than settled demand.
A 96 percent drawdown in daily volume is not unusual for memecoin markets. What makes it worth recording here is the denominator. Robinhood Chain is a general-purpose Ethereum layer 2, a network that settles to Ethereum while running its own cheaper execution, and it was launched with tokenized equities as the headline use case. When a single category of speculative tokens is clearing $443m in a day, it is not a sideshow, it is the market.
The chain's own numbers went the other way
While memecoin turnover was collapsing, the chain's balance sheet did not. Total value locked on Robinhood Chain stands at $1.05bn, according to DefiLlama, up 3.9 percent over the week from $1.01bn and sitting at an all-time high set today. Stablecoin supply on the chain is $1.07bn. Those are deposits, not trades, and they are the slower of the two series.
Trading itself remains substantial. DefiLlama records $1.18bn of decentralised exchange volume on Robinhood Chain in the past 24 hours, up 22.8 percent on the day but down 26.6 percent over the week. The venue split is concentrated: Uniswap V4 handled $412.4m and Uniswap V3 $335.3m, with Tessera V at $68.7m and Fables at $68.1m behind them. Chain fees came to $3.5m in 24 hours and $258.2m over 30 days.
What the gap between the two series means
A chain can lose almost all of one category's volume and still post a record in locked value, which is what happened here. The two numbers answer different questions. Volume asks how often an asset changes hands; total value locked asks how much is parked. Memecoin turnover is the most volatile input into the first and almost no input at all into the second, because the tokens are thinly collateralised relative to the size of their trading.
The three memecoins this desk tracks on the chain show the same pattern at a smaller scale. DexScreener figures read at 16:03 UTC today put PONS at a $278.1m market cap on $859.6k of 24 hour volume, Cash Cat at $146.4m on $198.4k, and Bundle Cat at $17.9m on $638.9k. Added together that is under $1.7m of turnover across the three, against $1.18bn of total decentralised exchange volume on the chain. Whatever drove the $443m peak, it is not visible in those three pools today.
Why the drawdown matters beyond the memecoins
Fee revenue is the practical link. A layer 2 earns from the transactions it processes, and a category that generated hundreds of millions of dollars of daily turnover was generating fees to match. Robinhood Chain's 30 day fee total of $258.2m, per DefiLlama, is a cumulative figure that includes the peak period. The $3.5m recorded in the past 24 hours is the current run rate, and it is the one that compounds from here.
The question the collapse poses is whether the stock token business, the thing the chain was built for, grows into the space the memecoins vacated. Deposits and stablecoin supply both suggest capital has stayed. Whether it trades is a separate matter, and one that the daily volume series will answer faster than any announcement.
Crypto Briefing framed the episode as a question about sustainability. On the evidence of the chain's own figures, the speculative layer proved exactly as durable as speculative layers usually are, and the base underneath it did not move with it.
