Robinhood Wallet Routes Stock Token Swaps Through an RFQ System With 190 Tokens
Robinhood Wallet has added Arcus as a routing provider for Stock Token swaps, giving eligible users access to more than 190 tokens, The Block reported.
Robinhood Wallet has integrated Arcus, a request for quote system, as a routing provider for Stock Token swaps, giving eligible users access to more than 190 tokens, according to The Block. A request for quote system, usually shortened to RFQ, asks market makers to price a specific trade and returns the best quote, rather than executing against a pooled liquidity curve the way an automated market maker does.
The difference shows up most on instruments that trade thinly. An automated market maker holds inventory in a pool and prices by formula, so a large order in a shallow pool moves the price against the trader. An RFQ puts the inventory question to a professional who can decide whether to take the other side and at what price, which is closer to how equities are quoted off exchange in traditional markets.
Why this is the hard part of stock tokens
Tokenized equities have a structural liquidity problem that memecoins do not. A share token tracks an instrument that trades in a different venue during different hours, so the onchain pool is never the price discovery venue, it is a mirror. Routing through market makers who can hedge in the underlying market is the mechanism that keeps the mirror honest.
More than 190 tokens is a wide list for a product class that is usually demonstrated with a handful of megacaps. Breadth is where RFQ earns its place, because the hundredth most liquid listed company does not support a deep onchain pool on its own.
The chain underneath
Robinhood Chain, the Ethereum layer 2 the company built for these instruments, held $1.04bn in total value locked on Wednesday, according to DefiLlama, an all time high and 3.8 percent above the level a week earlier. The chain turned over $1.53bn in decentralised exchange volume in 24 hours, with Uniswap V3 at $661.1m, Uniswap V4 at $543.6m and Fables at $125.4m the three largest venues.
Stablecoin supply on the chain stands at $1.04bn, which is the cash side of any swap routed through the wallet.
What routing tells you about demand
A firm adds a quote provider when it expects orders the existing path cannot fill well. The integration is therefore a statement about expected flow as much as about plumbing, and the thing to measure is whether the wide token list draws trades into names outside the obvious few.
